—————

Well, this is it. This is the final destination (not that kind of final destination) in our tour of the 50 states. We’ve made horrible puns, talked about killer furries, been disappointed beyond belief and even learned of some spooky local history. And now it all ends…at a high school. It’s strangely fitting if you think about it. Anyway, our final stop takes us to the Natrona High School in Casper, Wyoming. This is high school is like every other high school except it has one unique student (spoiler alert, it’s not a werewolf). This student only hangs out in the auditorium and loves plays. Oh, and they’re dead. That’s right, the ghost of a former student supposedly haunts the school’s auditorium. In the 1940’s, a female junior was rehearsing to audition for an upcoming school play. One night, after rehearsing, she’d forgotten her bag on stage. She crawled through a window to go and retrieve her bag, but failed to realize how high the drop was. She fell broke her back and died. Now her ghost haunts the auditorium. There’s one seat in the front row of the auditorium that always goes down during each play. people believe it’s her ghost sitting and watching the play with everyone else. They say if you sit in her seat, something will go wrong during the performance. She’s also been known to close doors, laugh and even apparitions have been seen on the balcony by the lighting booth.

I checked, and I couldn’t find any official confirmation that a student died at this school. Really the only websites that say this happened are sites that just tell the story of why the school is haunted. There’s no citations on any of the sites. So as far as I can tell, this is merely a legend. Another part that I pull into question is the part where the girl crawled through the window. If she fell to her death because of how high the window was from the ground, then how’d she get up to the window in the first place? Was there a conveniently placed ladder or something for her to climb up to it? And if your climbing to a high-up window, wouldn’t it be almost a given that the drop on the other side is going to be at least equally far down as it was up to the window? So couple that with the fact that there doesn’t seem to be any real confirmation of the girl’s death, and not to mention that the story only says it happened sometime in the 1940’s. Whenever ghost stories have that broad of a time-frame, it usually means it’s fake. So, overall, while it’s definitely something that’ll get people who visit the area talking, I think this is just another made-up tale. But, what do you think? Is Natrona High School haunted by a former student or is this just another made-up local legend?

And that concludes the “50 States of Freaky!” series! I had a lot of fun exploring each states’s creepy history and tales, and I’m glad i was able to bring you all along for the ride as well!
