Oklahoma - The Oklahoma Octopus. “50 States of Freaky!” Vol. 36

Oklahoma - The Oklahoma Octopus. “50 States of Freaky!” Vol. 36

Be sure you’re all caught up with this series! “50 States of Freaky”

———-

Oh boy, another lake. Apparently the paranormal has a strange attraction to lakes. Oklahoma supposedly has a lake monster, but it’s not a creepy dinosaur creature or a smelly Bigfoot. No, they have an octopus. Really? That’s the creepiest thing Oklahoma has? Oklahoma, you disappoint me. Anyway, you read that right, Oklahoma’s Lake Thunderbird is supposedly home to a fresh water dwelling octopus. Due to an increase in sightings and drownings, many people believe that there is an octopus living in the lake. It’s garnered national attention over the years, so much so that the Animal Planet show “Lost Tapes” (that show was so bad) did an episode on the Oklahoma Octopus. However, the one thing keeping most people from believing in the octopus’s existence is that fact that there are no known species of fresh-water octopuses in existence as of now. That, and the fact that since the man-made lake is only about 50 years old and has no connecting inlet. Still, this hasn’t stopped some from believing in the Octopus’s existence. OK, I have to point out that some locals call the lake “Lake DirtyBird”. If you’ve watched the movie “Misery”, I think you’ll know why that name makes me laugh. Anyway, is there an octopus really living in this lake, drowning swimmers? Probably not. Unless it’s some kind of species of octopus that hasn’t yet been discovered (I don’t see how that’s be possible though) then I think that this is just some urban legend. People wanted to explain why so many people have drowned in the lake and someone said “It was an octopus!” and people ran with it. But what do you think? Is there really an octopus living in this lake or is it just an urban legend?
